However, voters chose three more women to join Millie Peterson in being a voice for political issues in Utah. On Sunday, Nov. 15, the woman received a phone call from a man who told her she had won a new vehicle. She contacted the sheriffs office to report this incident According to sheriff Rick Hawkins, the woman said the man insisted she had won a brand new 1999 Cadillac that had a ten-yewarranty and five years of free insurance. "All she had to do is go to the Western Union and send $100 to cover the change of license plates from California to Utah. She was also told that the vehicle would be delivered the next morning from Ogden by a male named John Barry," explained Hawkins. This woman wrote down the address and phone number the man told her to call to verify his story. She then called the sheriffs office. When law enforcement officials called the number they only got an answering machine, said Hawkins. A sheriffs sergeant then contacted several ofthe Western Union offices in Uintah County and advised them of the scam. Hawkins wants to remind citizens that if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. He also said citizens should alwsys question telephone ealeepeople about their sales pitch and verify various items prior to making any purchase over the phone.
