Calder said the goal of the school is to survey the cultural resources on the property and excavate those sites considered significant. Calder explained the sites on ranch property are in relatively good condition due to their extreme remoteness. He also said BYU is anxious to apply modern excavation techniques to the canyon since most of the digs were conducted before many of the new research methods were devised. Also planned for the canyon is a survey of the cultural resources by the Historic Preservation Committee of Carbon County. The committee has applied for a grant to fund a field school each summer where volunteers will record and document the prehistoric sites.
