Morris expressed special thanks to Wilson Martin, project leader, Dr. David Madsen, Utah state archaeologist and Dr. David Gillette, Utah state paleontologist for their invaluable help, assistance and expertise they have given the Forest Service with this project. The Forest Service will maintain ownership of the skeleton, and it will be on permanent loan to CEU. Hatch said CEU will also get other items, including s short-facebear skull, found at the same site. With these decsions now made, Morris said it is hoped that work on the completion of the total project can move for- ward and the benefits, opportunities and experiences associated with this significant find can be realized If anyone has questions or desires further information, they can contact Sharon Metz-le- r or Ira Hatch at 599 West Price River Drive in Price, or telephone them College of Eastern Utah officials declined to comment on the decision of the Forest Service until they have had time to review the documents d I MVTET COBEY FELDMAN COREY HAIM Members of Mrs. Marra's third grade class at Castle Heights Elementary School appeared on the KSL Channel 5 weather with Bob Welti last week. County commissioners have agreed to pay $8,000 toward the truck. The local fire department currently provides coverage in of the areas unincorporated existto an county, pursuant interlocal agreement. ing In addition to the county fire-fighti- funds, Helper recently received a $70,000 grant from the Community Impact Board for the purchase. However, according to assistant fire chief Mike Zamantakis, verbal price estimates from deal- - ers have indicated additional revenue will be necessary. In order to transact a purchase, Helper will be responsible for satisfying the difference. The council passed a motion approving the purchase without setting a limit on local governments potential financial obligation. According to Mayor Robert Olsen, the city can always refuse to enter into a purchasing contract on a new fire engine if the figure is way out of line. Mayor Olsen credited Representative Mike Dmitrich, Senator Omar Bunnell, Utah State Fire Marshal Lynn Borg, Brent Halliday, the Carbon County Board of Commissioners, Harold Marston of planning and zoning and Hel per city firemen Zamantakis and Jim Pugliese with having been instrumental in obtaining the CIB grant. City attorney Gene Strate was asked to draft a letter formally thanking the men and women for their assistance in securing the funding on behalf of Mayor Olsen and the coun-cilmember- s. Acting on a related agenda item, lawmakers approved a request to purchase five new tires, at an estimated cost of $750, for the citys newest-ol- d fire truck. Following Mayor Olsens recommendations, officials passed a motion approving Helpers submittal of bids on a vacant railroad building and a parcel of property on 1st West (Continued from Page 1A) al programs. Commissioner Varner suggested two options for restructuring the recreational agency. The first alternative involved placing the present structure under the Association of Governments (AOG). The second involved transfer- ring the organizations accounting from the school district to the county. Varner said the second option received favorable consensus from 22 elected officials at a special meeting on May 8. Upon being questioned by Commissioner Varner and Mayor Martines concerning her absence from the meeting, AhMu admitted she had agreed in a telephone conversation with Varner to attend but, after receiving a carbon copy of a letter announcing the session, later decided against attending. The director said the correspondance was addressed solely to elected on May 24. The motion, made by Councilman Mike Dalpiaz, and she had been advised by four board members not to attend. Why didnt you, the mayor asked, discuss your concerns with me (the chairman of the officials board)? AhMu countered the question by asking Martines why he had not been present, to which the mayor replied he had a prior commitment. The director then said she had attended a meeting in Salt Lake City that evening. I think, Martines said, the reason you didnt call me is the last time we talked you told me I wasnt your boss. ..the superintendent was. Thats, an AhMu insisted, out-and-o- ut lie! What else, the mayor countered, did you say? (You said) Im not going to take any crap from you.ra The director also denied making the second comment. Both Martines and AhMu claimed to have had witnesses to the telephone conversation in question. Following the verbal exchange with the mayor, the director told Commissioner Varner that she had never objected to a decrease in county funding but rather the amount of the cut and the manner in which the county had reached the decision. AhMu said she still believed been gone. The real controversy here, AhMu countered, is you and I have not communicated. My door is always opened, Varner replied.
