Gravely Jr , USN, commander of the U S Ihird Fleet The a commander is Rear Admiral Paul H Speer, USN, commander of Carrier Air Group One, operating from the aircraft carrier UNDER FIVE Dr Richard Johns, administrator of the Davis County Health department, examines Regan Christensen during the Tuesday afternoon Well Child elm ic conducted through the department By ROSELYN KIRK well child clinic A adminis-(ere- d through the Davis County Department of Health provides an avenue where children under five can receive immunizations and preventive health care DR. Richard Johns, administrator of the Davis County Department of Health, sees children who are not receiving followup care on a regular basis from private physicians He said that visits are scheduled not only for children we qualify for indigent medical care, but also for middle class families whose children under five are not receiving physical examinations on a permanent basis The clinics, scheduled from 1 to 4 30 p m on Tuesdays are set for the examination rooms located in the health department in the basement of the Davis County Courthouse in I armington eight to ten children are scheduled for ABOUT appointments each week Dr Johns said the infant receives periodic examinations up to 18 months or two years until the are immunizations completed and then is seen at the clinic once a year until he reaches five A limited number of pre-scho- examinations are conducted, but this is not the normal focus of the clinic Although some treatment is given if an ill child is brought in for a checkup, sick children are usually referred to a private physician Complete medical records are kept on every child who is examined at the clinic SOME of the screening of the children is performed by public health nurses who take blood counts to identify iron deficiency anemia, and test language and social development at yearly Intervals Lois Nielsen, who heads the Women, Infants and Child (WIC) program in the county, conducts a portion of the clinical examinations in order to increase the capacity of the to handle more children In some cases the clinic as sumes the responsibility for health care as the first agency to see the child after the six weeks check up, usually a follow-u- p by the pediatrician after the initial hospital visit clinic, DR. Johns said he has no specialization in pediatric medicine prior to taking over the well child dime m April 1974.
