PCL president Bill Cutler said the meeting of club directors and general managers reached a quick agreement to participate in the round-robi- n format featuring the champions of the PCL, International League and the American Association. "We think it is a great thing because it would determine an overall Triple-champion," said Cutler. "The series would do a lot to hype Triple-- baseball, espacially if we get a television contract." Cutler said he was confident the minor league World Series would be nationally televised, if not on one of the commericial networks, through cable television. Pete Rose Welcomed Back at Philadelphia - PHILADELPHIA (UPI) Pete Rose, who hit just .271 last season, will return to the Philadelphia Phillies next year, team President Bill Giles announced Tuesday. Giles said the Phillies would renew the Rose's contract for another year but said Rose should slow down. "I say he should play 155 (of 162) games," Giles said at a news conference. "I think in the hot summer months he should not play doubleheaders, but it's up to his manager (Pat Corrales) and Pete." Rose, whose has a contract that runs through the 1986 season but must be renewed each year by the Phillies before Nov. 15, maintained his desire to play. "If I'm going to be here every night I just don't want to sit and watch... but if I come to the ballpark and my name's not in the lineup I'm not going to go running to Pat," Rose said. Rose said he felt he had an "obligation" to play often. "If I was hitting .310 you wouldn't have said anything about me taking days off. but I wouldn't have hit any higher if I'd taken days off in July. When you're a lifetime .310 hitter and hit .270, naturally people are going to say you can't hit anymore." According to Giles the decision to keep Rose was carefully considered. "We're disappointed he didn't hit .300," Giles said, "but we feel he can bounce back and hit .315. If we got to the point where we don't feel he can help us win ballgames we wouldn't renew his contract."
