Chet Robinson, manager of Orem's Red Wing Shoe Store, 248 North State, said the business busi-ness specializes in work boots, steel toe hunting boots, and the Vasque line of hiking boots. The Vasque line, founded 30 years ago by Red Wing, has been consistently top rated by Backpacker Back-packer Magazine. .The popular Sundowner model, in particular, received a 1 rating. The boots feature a Gore-tex lining. With the specialized lining, if the leather of the boot becomes wet, a wearer's sock still remains dry. Some boots are one piece Italian-made leather which molds to the foot and doesn't come apart. Robinson recommends that for off-trail hiking and backpacking, back-packing, it is very important to have a steel shank and a more rigid boot for support. The national Red Wing Shoe Company is now in its 91st year of business and is based in Red Wing, Minnesota. It is one of the nation's largest family-owned businesses, according to Robinson. Robin-son. The Orem store is a factory outlet which provides .the highest quality footwear at the best discount prices. , , A feature unique to the Orem store is free service for life on footwear sold. Free waterproofing waterproof-ing is done, then Robinson recommends that people bring in their boots once a month for treatment with a high quality Nature Seal silicone that "doubles the life of the leather". The maintenance services include in-clude free laces, free stitching, and free eyelethook replacement. replace-ment. The work can be done while the customer waits. With 8,000 pairs of footwear in stock, Red Wing Shoe Store can accommodate hard-to-find narrow and wide foot widths. Sizes stocked range from A to EEEE. Orem's Red Wing Shoe Store moved from its Center Street location last September, where it had been for 20 years, to the new store, which is twice as big to accommodate the sales volume. The new store is one of the largest Red Wing stores in the country, Robinson said, and sells more than any other store. Robinson attributes the high J L (Stat Any Prtcafl JN , 0 sales volume to the OremProvo area having more hikers here per capita than elsewhere in the nation. Part of the reason, he said, may be the 60,000 students who attend Brigham Young University and Utah Valley State College. The local market is sensitive to good deals, Robinson explained, ex-plained, and Red Wing Shoe Store has them. For instance, a closeout sale of 1995 Vasque boots had $75 Vasque Alph campshoes (in men's 7,8, and 8 12 and women's 6-9 12) marked at $15.- There was also a half-price half-price sale on Vasque Kids Climbers. Clim-bers. In addition to footwear, the Red Wing Shoe Store carries a full line of USA-made, high quality belts; a full line of socks,' including sport, work and hunting; hunt-ing; a full line of shoe care products; and Red Wing and Spenco insoles and arch supports. sup-ports. There is a one year unconditional uncon-ditional guarantee on insoles. Store hours are Monday through Friday from 10 to 7 and 10 to 6 Saturday. The Orem store is closed on Sundays. . Open house, dedication dates set for new temple A six-week public open house at the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple in American Fork, Utah, ' has been announced by the First Presidency of The church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. People of all faiths will be welcome to tour the temple from August 10 through September 21, except for Sundays. After the open house, the temple will be formally dedicated dedi-cated for its intended use. In order to accommodate as many of the 131,000 members of the Church in the 41 stakes of the temple district, 27 separate dedicatory sessions will be conducted con-ducted October 13-19. Once it is dedicated, the temple will be used only by faithful faith-ful Latter-day Saints for marriages, mar-riages, baptisms, and other sacred ordinances focusing on the eternal potential of family relationships. The Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple will be the 49th operating temple in 29 countries. Another 14 announced an-nounced temples are in various stages of planning or construction. construc-tion. Plans for the temple were announced an-nounced in October of 1992 and ground was broken a year later. The temple is situated on a 17-acre 17-acre site on the east bench of American Fork. It has some 104,000 square feet of floor area. A statue of the Angel Moroni, ( symbolically heralding the res- toration of the gospel to the ; earth, stands atop the building's lone tower. v |
