W n.Tlrn-11 nj Rita Ann Williams Rita Ann Holdaway Williams, ago 62, of Orem, died peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loved, ones, on May 26, 1996, She was born May 11, 1934, in Provo, Utah, to Ida M. Wagstaff and the late Randall B. Holdaway. She married A.G. Williams Wil-liams August 30,1956. They lived in the Bay area, Hawaii, Concord, and Vjsalia, California. After divorcing . in.l971, shfiinoveiJtoOtcmwthher five children. . She was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many of the auxiliary organizations, most recently as Relief Society teacher. She died firm in the faith of the gospel. She was employed by Alpine School District as financial secretary for Orem Jr. High for 23 years. She also worked part time at ZCMI for over 20 years. Survivors include her five children,- their spouses,-, and 24 grandchildren: Lisa and Jerome Grasser and nine children of Germany-James and Raehel-Eddington Williams and five children of Orem; Mark and Elizabeth James Williams and one child of Al.; Shauna and Robert Poast and nine children of , Orem; and Michael Williams of Orem. She is also survived by her mother, Ida Holdaway of Orem; brothers Dennis Holdaway of Nevada and Blaine Holdaway of Mammoth, Utah; a sister, Anabcl and Royce Mastcrson of Spanish Fork; and sister-in-law Linda Holdaway Hol-daway Ballard of Pleasant Grove. Jones, loving husband, father, grandfather, and greatgrandfather great-grandfather passed away on May 26 after a long struggle with ill health. He was born October 12, 1912, to Julia Sackett and Charles Alma Jones in Provo, Utah. As a child he moved to Orem. He had four sisters. He worked on his father's farm while growing up. He graduated from Lincoln Lin-coln High ScHobl' ahdattended BYU for two years. He married Edith Williams on August 30, 1935. They were sealed in the Manti Temple on July 17, 1940. They celebrated their 60th, wedding anniversary this past year. - He worked in the silver mi nes in Walkermine, California. When Geneva Steel was being built he moved his famiy back to Utah and worked on the plant's construction. ! He then worked in the steel industry for 29 years, when ho retired after suffering a stroke. He was a wonderful, patient father who loved his children and always wanted the best for them. He was a very private man and his feel- ings ran deep. He was a gentle giant. Next to his family, Earl loved the !-Scouting !-Scouting program, where ho spent ' 66 years. He served as a Cubm aster, Scoutmaster, and district trainer. Ho attended Philmont three times and has received many Scouting awards, includingthe Second Miler,. the District Award of Merit, and the Council Silver Beaver. He received a standing ovation "when ho was awarded the Rock of Squaw Peak this past March. He was an active member of the LDS Church. He served a stake mission, mis-sion, as elders quorum president, ' and in the high priests quorum as .secretary for many years. While his health permitted, he was active in attending the temple. Survivors include his wife, Edith; four daughters: Judith Lee (Charles) Monson, Orem; Kathleen (Jim) Smith, Antioch, California; Jerrilyn (Brad) Mortensen, Lindon; and Meridee (Steven ) You ng, Provo; one special daughter-in-law, Debra William s, and a loving sister, Theda Burr, who helped with Earl's care. Ho has 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Two sons, Richard Earl and Gary E. Jones, preceded him in death. Bel va Erickson Gehring , Our precious mother and grandmother, Belva Erickson Gehring, Gehr-ing, passed away May 25, 1996, in Orem, Utah. The eldest child of Erick and Eliza Wasden Erickson, Mother was born November 16, 1903, in Raymond, Alberta, Canada. She married pur wonderful daddy, Paul Hermann Gehring, November 28, ,, 1923, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They made their home in Salt Lake and lived there until 1947, when they moved to Provo. Daddy died November 27, 1987, just one day before their 64th wedding anniversary. anniver-sary. Mother never really recovered from this loss. ' Mother was an excellent cook, seamstress, and homemaker. Temple. He died May 20, 1991. Early in her life she taught school, but has spent her life dedicated dedi-cated to her home and family. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She was also an active member of The Church of ' Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had served as theChicago Stake speech and drama director for years. She was a Beehive leader and also a den mother. She served a mission with her husband to the Tulsa, Oklahoma Ok-lahoma Mission. Jay Dee Shelton Jay Dee Shelton, of Orem, passed away May 21, 1996. He was born March 21, 1934, in Lewisville, Idaho, a son of Clair E. and Rose -Hickman Shelton. He graduated from Lincoln High School andserved an LDS mission to Sydney, Australia. He married Glenda Brown on March 18, 1960. Jay worked for Wool worth's, Hercules, and for Geneva Steel for the last 30 years. Jay was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was known for his generosity and kindness, and will be missed by all who knew him. Jay is survived by his wife, Glenda; Glen-da; his two sons and their wives: Clay and Tanya Shelton, Clair and JoLyne Shelton; and one granddaughter, Cassio Shelton. She was born in Magrath, Alberta, Canada, June 26, 1909, a daughter of James Boyack and Julia Emily Hawkes Ririe. She married Marvin J. Godfrey June 3, 1931, in the Cardston Alberta Canada LDS Temple. She attended school in Magrath, Alberta, Canada. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many church positionsin the Relief Society and the other auxiliaries. Douglas Merlin Clark Douglas Merlin Clark, 62, died peacefully at home with his family present after a valiant struggle with brain cancer, on May' 27, 1996, in : Orem, Utah. Doug was born December 7, 1933, in Orem! Utah, the son of Marion J. and Florence Bell Clark. He married Robbie Jean Bell of Moultrie, Georgia, on June 5, 1958, in the Salt Lake Temple. He was a member of the LDS Church and was an elder at the time of his death. Doug eventually fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming partners with his father, Marion Clark, in formingClark Engi neeri ng Machi no Company. He was actively involved in community service and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling. He is survived by his wife Robbie; Rob-bie; two sons and two daughters, including Lori (Ron) Johnson of Orem; two sisters and ten grandchildren.
