The bride-to-be is a graduate of Mountain View High School and LDS Seminary. In 1995, she graduated from Brigham. Young University with a bachelor's degree in Family-Science. Family-Science. She . is currently employed at TRI Connections, Inc. The groom, a graduate of Democratic Women of Utah County meet The Democratic Women of Utah County held an installation installa-tion luncheon in the Garden Room at Prestwich Farms on Saturday, May 18. Merle White, the immediate past president of the Utah State Democratic Women, called the meeting to' order and gave a welcome to those in attendance. She led them in the pledge of allegiance to the flag. Vera Nielsen, Orem area coordinator of the Utah County Democratic party, installed the officers who were recently elected to lead the group. She reviewed for them their duties and responsibilities. The following elected officers were installed to serve for a two-year two-year term from 1996 to 1998: Bonnie Bennett, president, Provo; Opal Spencer, vice president presi-dent .(program), Springville; Julie Kappas, vice president (membership), Springville; Merle White, corresponding secretary, Orem; Patricia Adams, recording secretarytreasurer, Provo. President Bennett introduced intro-duced the appointed officers who will be working with her and the other elected officers on the executive ex-ecutive committee. They are Helen Weeks, Orem, the educationinformation educa-tioninformation officer; Vera Nielsen, Orem, historianparliamentarian; historianpar-liamentarian; and Pam Young, Lindon, public information officer. of-ficer. She introduced the topic by telling those present that policies are driven by the budget because economics determine action that is taken. She gave them the percentages percent-ages of the current budget in each of ten areas: international affairs, 1; food stamps, 2; interest in-terest on debt, $15; Medicare, 10; Medicaid, 6; Social Security not fully paid, 22; defense, 18; pension unemployment, un-employment, 6; other incoming incom-ing security, 6; other (education, (educa-tion, crime, etc.), 13. Ms. Peters expressed concern con-cern about block grants that will not be sufficient to adequately fund the mandated programs. She also decried the welfare reform program passed by the last session of the Utah Legisla-; ture. Three years is the lifetime limit, which is not sufficient for an adequate education for a woman to obtain a job with a livable wage. She also said that we need to get strong support for a child care bill. Her closing admonition ad-monition was, "We need to elect more women to the state legislature legisla-ture and the national Congress." President Bonnie Bennett announced plans for the Democratic Women of Utah County for a picnic in the park at Kiwanis Park on Saturday, June 8, 1996. It I I Amy Lorraine Thaxton, daughter of Theodore J. and Lorraine Lor-raine Thaxton of Orem, will marry Jason Dean Hales, son of Gordon and Kaye Hales of Idaho Falls, onJune 6, 1996 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. The couple will honored that evening at a garden reception at the home of the bride's parents in Orem. The bride-to-be graduated from Orem High School and LDS seminary program and lettered let-tered four years in swimming. She is currently a senior at Brigham Young University Alma John and Jeanne Goodrich Richman celebrate 50th Alma John and Jeanne Goodrich Richman are celebrating celebrat-ing their 50th wedding anniversary. anniver-sary. They were married May 22, 1946, in the Salt Lake Temple. Alma is the son of Florence Woodward Richman, Orem. i The couple met while Alma was teaching high school in Al-tamont, Al-tamont, Utah. ' Alma served in the U. S. , Navy Mobile Amphibious Repair Base (MARB) forces from June 1943 through February 1946. He was stationed mainly in the South Pacific. " Music has been very impor-, tant to them both. Alma played ' in several local bands and with Lloyd K. and Carol Schlappl to celebrate 60th anniversary Lloyd K. and Carol Remund Schlappi of Orem will celebrate their 60th weddinganniversary. The Schlappis were married June 3, 1936, in the Manti LDS Temple. ' Lloyd ' was born in Washington, Utah, on November Novem-ber 30, 1914, to Henry John and Adeline Sproul Schlappi. He attended at-tended grade school and high school in Delta, Utah, and enrolled en-rolled at Brigham Young University in the fall of 1933. He transferred two years later to Utah State, then graduated in 1937 in the field of agriculture and agricultural economics. Mr. Schlappi worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for three years and served as a lieutenant in the Navy for three years during World War II. The balance of his career was spent with the Department of the Interior, In-terior, Bureau of Land Management Manage-ment as a realty specialist. Serving in many capacities in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mr. Schlappi was a member of high councils in four different -stakes" for 20 years; was branch president of an Indian branch in Richfield; was a counselor in a branch in Adak, Alaska;.and acounselorin a bishopric in Brigham City. He has been both a stake clerk and a ward clerk. He worked as a temple worker in both the Manti and Provo LDS Temples. Her fiance graduated from Bonneville High School and LDS Seminary in Idaho Falls. He is currently a student in a joint bachelor and masters program in Civil Engineering at Brigham Young University. He served a mission to Scotland and is employed at BYLPs Department of Civil Engineering. Jeanne has sung in many trios and double trios for funerals, programs, and church meetings. The Richmans have been active ac-tive in the LDS Church and have served in many positions. Alma worked at Geneva for 36 years. They are the parents of Helen Prescott, Orem; Greg Richman, Provo; Kevin Rich-man, Rich-man, Provo; and Teri Bryan, Salem. They have 11 grandchildren and one great-grandson. great-grandson. They celebrated the occasion with a family dinner hosted by their children. Temple. Carol Remund Schlappi was born in Midway, Utah, on September Sep-tember 28, 1916, to Frederick Remund, Jr., and Elfreda Jaspersen Remund. She attended at-tended school in Wasatch County Coun-ty and graduated from Wasatch High School with a scholarship to BYU in music. She enrolled at BYU in 1934. While there she met Lloyd, and they married two years later. Mrs. Schlappi taught elementary school in Richfield for 11 years at Ashman Elementary. Elemen-tary. Her church callings have included service as both a ward and stake Primary president, and various teaching assignments assign-ments with the younger classes in Primary and Sunday School, Her interests have been cooking, sewing, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. The Schlappis are the parents of four: L. Kent (Shannon) (Shan-non) Schlappi, Salt Lake City; Larry R. (Patricia) Schlappi, Orem; Roger K. (Alane) Schlappi, Schlap-pi, Orem; and Carolyn S. (Kay) Mangelson, Boise, Idaho. They have 22 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Orem Women's Club is a community-minded organization. organiza-tion. Money raised at the annual fashion show and luncheon provides scholarships to Girls' State and chosen community projects. The goal of the club is to make the community not just a good one to live in, but a great one. The programs are chosen to encourage self-awareness and development, better service to the community and its citizens, and better understanding of city problems.
