These awards are given out based on the faculty's commendable efforts to exemplify the school's mission statement by being dedicated to excellence, united in service, or educated for success. Lanell Rabner has received the "Dedicated to Excellence" Excel-lence" award fori.March. She was nominated for the great work she has done for the Springville High School library. Students and teachers often use her resources because she has turned the library into an impressive media me-dia center. The library web site challenges all others in the state. It contains a large number of data bases perfect for research. These resources combined with her superior supe-rior knowledge are an enormous benefit to SHS. Mrs. Rabner has worked in conjunction with the English Eng-lish and Social Science departments to help students with various research projects. She has made resources both accessible and helpful in her student-friendly environment. environ-ment. Her true love of books is also evident as she goes out of her way to find reading books for individuals and shares her love of literature with all. Hugo Villar was awarded the "United in Service" award. Mr. Villar has been an incredible asset to SHS. From his professional dress to his fairness with students, he demonstrates how much he values his position. Mr. Villar is approachable and sincere with students and faculty fac-ulty alike. He has gotten to know many SHS students because he genuinely cares about them and is always available to talk to. His sense of humor and kindness is noted by everyone: Hugo has provided supervision at school events, chaperoned chap-eroned school trips, fixed lockers, acted as an intermediary intermedi-ary with Springville police, substituted classes, and interpreted inter-preted for Spanish speaking students and parents. He is always reaching out and going out of his way to make SHS a safe and valued environment. He has taken a job at the new Maple Mountain High School and when asked about this change he said, "I love the kids. SHS students are fantastic and I will absolutely miss it here." Frazier SHS STAFF WRITER On March 17, 2008, 12 students from Springville High FFA Chapter had the opportunity to compete in the State Career Development Develop-ment Events. These are judging contests in various segments of agriculture and generally relate to a career in that specific area. Springville Spring-ville FFA took six different differ-ent teams and they all performed per-formed very well. The horse judging team consisted of Swade Bartlett, Katie Ashby , Kelsey Framp-ton Framp-ton and Sheena Frazier. The team did an amazing job utilizing uti-lizing their natural talents as well as their practiced abilities competing against 54 other teams! SHS FFA received a gold rating and placed 3rd in the entire state. We want to express our thanks to Vicki Frampton for her help with the team. These same students also competed in the livestock judging contest receiving a silver ranking in the state. We want to express our sincere appreciation to K.D. Roach and Dennis Boyer for working with our livestock judgers. Judging floriculture and poultry were Katie Kitchen, Chris Cook, ChelseaBrinker-hoff ChelseaBrinker-hoff , and Melinda McClain. In the poultry contest they received a gold rating placing plac-ing 6th in the state, and they received a silver ranking in floriculture. Many of these contests require a lot of hands-on experience, time and practice these students were very committed and did a great job. Diamonds Greenhouse and Shepherds Egg Farm spent time with these students in preparing for the contest. ; Springville was known for many years of having an outstanding meats judging judg-ing team and are on the road to that once again!
