Show PAGE SIX PROVO (UTAH) SUNDAY HERALD, SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 231941 Winter Sports Given New Impetus DODGE 1941 CUSTOM TOWN SEDAN 1 1 1 : . C. iiiii Byrd's Antarctic Plane Winter sports, which this year are expected to reach new popularity popu-larity heights, owe much of their remarkable ascendency to the automobile industry. Roads are better; winter driving is safer than ever before; skiing', tabopganing', skating' and scenic beauty spots are rauch more accessible; and, to top it all, winter sports enthusiasts en-thusiasts can have their fun in thorough comfort because of new automotive advancements. Outstanding among these de velopments is said to be the Nash "Weather Eve' system of conditioned condi-tioned air for winter motoring, which is credited with being the most important winter comfort advancement ad-vancement since the introduction of the sedan body. Graduated this year into a full-fledged system of pressure ventilation and heating, the now "Weather Eye" brings fresh air into the car under pressure, pres-sure, warms it to a selected temperature tem-perature as it enters, and keeps the interior of the car at the desired de-sired comfort level by thermostatic thermosta-tic control. Most striking advantages of the system are said to be thorough elimination of dangerous fumes, such as carbon monoxide; uniform heat throughout the car; complete elimination of foggy and frosted windows; and a constant, springlike spring-like quality to the atmosphere within the car. Drafts are ended, since the windows are kept closed. Fresh air is drawn in through the open cowl ventilator, and it is filtered and dehumidified just before be-fore it passes through a huge heating core. ! The system now appears for the first time " ih'tne low-price field, i being available on the new Nash Ambassador "GOO," the big car with which Nash recently entered into direct competition with Ford Chevrolet and Plymouth. Mormon Picneer Prizes Joseph Smith's Rifle BOUNTIFUL. Utah il'.r.) An old muzzle-loading rifle is among the most treasured possessions of Granville Barlow, pioneer Mormon Mor-mon resident of this Ulan farming farm-ing community. The rifle formerly belonged to Joseph Smith, founder of the L. J. S. church. Smith gave the rifle to Barlow's father when both lived at Nauvoo, 111. The church leader wanted Barlow to keep it while he went on a trip. The trip Smith took was to the jail at nearby Carthage, where he was assassinated by a mob. Barlow said he tried to fire the rifle a few years ago, but "it al- most knocked me over the barn I'd sooner be in front of it than in back." "Experience in otner years," he said, "makes it a foregone conclusion con-clusion that Chevrolet will rely heavily on advertising in seeking its expected sales increase in 1941.
