In northern Utah, Rockport Reservoir is turning out nice catches of rainbow trout. Pineview Reservoir, a few miles east of Ogden, is giving up hefty stringers of crappie and black bullhead catfish. Persistent bass fishermen are boating some nice largemouth bass, but most fish must be released because of the new 15-inch minimum size limit on bass at Pineview. Fisheries biologists hope the experimental size restriction will bolster the bass fishery by protecting the population of smaller fish until they reach spawning maturity. Bear Lake, on the Utah-Idaho border, has slowed somewhat for smaller trout, but it's still a good bet for a trophy cutthroat up to 10 pounds. Use large silver or hammered brass spoons to Irick the big fish. Anglers report "great fishing" for rainbow trout at Deer Creek Reservoir, Reser-voir, near Heber in Wasatch County. The reservoir was recently stocked. Bass fishing Is also improving as the water warms. Expect fast fishing action ac-tion for yellow perch at Deer Creek in late May and early June, when the tasty tas-ty panfish move into shallower water to spawn. Yellow perch and walleye" are already biting at Yuba Reservoir south of Ltvan. The reservoirs reser-voirs have an eight-fish limit, but anglers are cautioned that all Strawberry and Soldier Creek tributaries are closed until July 1. Lots of white bass and channel catfish cat-fish are being caught at Utah Lake. High water has limited access at the lake, and anglers are urged to use caution cau-tion when fishing along shorelines. Submerged dikes may provide good footing, but can drop off suddenly. Flaming Gorge Reservoir, the prime year-round' fishery in northeastern nor-theastern Utah, is giving up rainbows and some trophy lake trout. Observers there say the kokanee are starting to school and should offer good fishing in the next few weeks. Fish small pop gear and a worm in shallow water to catch these diminutive members of the salmon family. A few bragging-size brown trout have come out of the Green River below the dam in recent weeks. Look for improving action on rainbow and cutthroat trout in the river later this month. Anglers should read the fishing proclamation pro-clamation carefully for no- catch and-irlea.se and-irlea.se regulation? on the Green River below Flaming Gorge Dam. Division of Wildlife Resources enforcement officers of-ficers will be monitoring the river very closely this year to Insure compliance with the new regulations.
