Solos were played by David Briggs, "Fur Elise;" Karina Briggs, "Busy Woodpecker;" Monty Ashmore, "Sonata in C;" Monique Tinker played "Space Walk" as a solo and "Dox-ology" "Dox-ology" in a duet. Kelly Campbell was guest pianist as she is another music teacher's student. She played "Spanish Fiesta." Roger Ashmore played "Windowshield Wiper Rock." Certificates of merit were presented to each student with the highest awards going to John Carter and Laura Briggs. In addition to their certificate cer-tificate each child was given a small vase of flowers for his mother. Following the recital refreshments were served in the cultural hall. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Bowman of Springville, Utah visited this weekend at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Ashmore and children. Gwen Reed, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cloyd Reed, was home from school for Mother's Day. Gwen is taking tak-ing a secretarial course at the technical college in Orem, Utah. Mrs. Lillie Gerber of Logan visited at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James Briggs, for several weeks. Visiting at the Briggs' home this weekend was their son, Matthew, who attends USU in Logan. Mrs. Norman Long is convalescing at home following her surgery at St. Marks Hospital in Salt Lake City the week before last. Mr. and Mrs. Curt Reed and daughters moved to Logan recently, where Curt is attending USU. Mrs. Bill Carter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson, visited with the Carters this weekend. William G. Hill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Hill of Green River, Wyo., graduated from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo., recently. He received the Outstanding Graduating Senior Award in mining engineering. He was on the Honor Roll and the Dean's list throughout his four years at school. He is the grandson of Ora and Howard Iverson of Manila. The Iver-sons Iver-sons attended a special dinner given in his honor by his parents at the Red Feather Cafe in Green River Friday night. Also attending was his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Kelly Iverson and children, John and Lisa, of Cokeville, Wyo. The Kelly Iversons spent the weekend with their parents in Manila. Airman Michael D. Cruz, son of Neva Nemeth of Vernal, has graduated from the U.S. Air Force Security Police specialist course in Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. Michael is scheduled to serve the 7th Security Police Squadron at Carswell Air Force Base, Texas. . His wife, Judy, is the daughter of Cloyd L. and Claire Christensen Reed of Manila. Michael is a graduate of Manila High School. Daggett County Sheriffs; Depart-; ment released the following statistics for the month of April: 68 calls were received, 30 assists were given, 24 warnings war-nings issued, 12 citations were issued, one accident was investigated, two cases of burglary were reported and investigated, three arrests were made (one for DUI, one for assault and one for failure to appear). wednesdoy, Moy is, 1985 Vernal Exftefldvertlsef 1 7 CONGRATULATIONS! Congratulations this week go to Aimee Jo, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Rowell, for passing her first milestone. Her first birthday was May 10. I' .i Aimee Jo Rowell Steinaker named class salutatorian Michelle Steinaker will be giving the salutatorian address at the Manila High School graduation exercises at 8 p.m. on May 17. Michelle is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Randy Steinaker of Manila, and the granddaughter grand-daughter of Elbert Steinaker, Sr., of Manila and of Kenna Ross of Myton, Utah. Throughout her high school years Miss Steinaker has been very active. She has been varsity cheerleader and on the varsity volleyball team for four years. She has been queen of the Sweetheart Ball, Miss Mustangette, part of the homecoming royalty (twice) and in the Junior Prom royalty. Michelle has been in the honor club, yearbook, and lettermens' club. She has been on the drill team for four years and has been drill mistress. Michelle has been active in student government where she served as student stu-dent body historian and as vice president. Michelle has received three scholarships scholar-ships and will be accepting the scholarship to the Provo Technical College, where she will be studying business. Manila High School Baccalaureate Services will be conducted at the Manila LDS Chapel at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Thurs-day, May 16. WaNeta Lamb, former seminary teacher, will be the guest speaker. Music students of Mrs. William Ashmore conducted a music recital at the Manila LDS Chapel at S p.m. on Mother's Day. The first part of the program pro-gram was performed by four groups of small children in a rhythm band. The first selection, "My Mother Needs Mc," was conducted by a first grade student, Gayle Marie Tinker. The second piece, "Up and Over and Down," was conducted by another first grader, Melissa Campbell. Mrs. Ashmore conducted the third and last number, "Never Tell a Lie." Mrs. Ashmore played duets with mast of her students as many of them were very timid and it was their first appearance in pubt.c. She says it also teaches them perfect rhythm.
