Carol Hansen was chosen as historian. Lady Lions give honor to past presidents of group The Lady Lions of Vernal met at the "Mine Company" for their last meeting of the year. Roma Anderson conducted the meeting, excusing Lila Caldwell, Deon Openshaw took minutes. A salad bar was served. The tables were decorated with lilacs, tulips and figurines under the direction of Alma Jefferies. A quilt made by Marie Wardle, vice president, was displayed. It will be taken to the State Lions Convention Conven-tion in Price the first week of June. The money made from the quilt will be given to the Utah Lions Foundation Founda-tion to assist with the Eye Bank. The eye bank is one of the largest in the western states. Barbara Mott introduced Theda Murray who read a special tribute she had written, to the past presidents who were special guests at the meeting. A report had been prepared showing the past presidents and listing their accomplishments while in office. The'Lady Lions were organized in 1938 with Marguerite Colton as the first president. Some of the things the Lady Lions have accomplished and given funds for are sponsoring Girl's State, funds for the blind, scholarships for nursing, the library, polio drive, floats for parades, the first lady doll display at the library, support of the New Life Training Center, a piano for the Junior High, furnishing a room at the hospital each year, a fountain at the park called the "Freedom Fountain", Foun-tain", funds for play equipment at the park by the swimming pool and many more. Members receiving 100 percent pins at the meeting were Vonda Lee Curtis for 17 years, Roma Anderson, five years, Marie Wardle, seven years, Deon Openshaw, two years, Maryetta Wardle, one year and Carole Hansen, one year. , It was announced that a book will be placed in the County Library in memory of Vera Hacking who recently recent-ly passed away. Preceptor Pi installs officers Preceptor Pi, a chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, held their first meeting for May at the home of Theda Murray May 7, with 11 members taking part in the opening ritual. Installation of officers was held and a special ritual for their honorary member, Kay Thunehorst. Kay was presented a rose brooch pin by Theda Murray, outgoing president. A going away gift was also presented to Sue Davis, who is leaving Vernal to go to Lake Charles, La. Each member was presented an award of merit from the outgoing president with special charms and a certificate of appreciation for service, support and cooperation in the chapter during the past year. After the meeting was adjourned, all stood for the closing ritual and joined hands for the mizpah. Door prize was won by Theda Murray. Early Saturday morning, May 11, Preceptor Pi members found themselves being kidnapped and taken to a "come as you are" breakfast at the home of Juanita Oden newly elected president. Eleven members enjoyed a meal prepared and served by hostess Juanita. The next and final meeting of the spring season will be held at the Country Coun-try Club May 21, where secret sisters will be revealed. Plans for summer activities ac-tivities will be announced this night. Ladies Petroleum installs officers Ladies Petroleum meeting was held May 1 at the Dinaland Country Club with Lucille Lipphardt presiding. Several members were in attendance with one guest, Catie Bucher of the SPE. Linda Pittsenbargar presided at the installation ceremony with Lucille Lipphardt, Lip-phardt, out-going president, assisting. Accepting their pledge as next year's officers were Gerri Voyles, president; Gerry Staley, vice president; Betty Eaton, secretary; Linda Nickell, treasurer; Marge Collier, Parliamentarian; Parliamen-tarian; board members, Mary Stringham and Billye Durkee. Five senior girls who had applied for annual scholarships spoke briefly to the members, after which the members asked questions of the applicants. ap-plicants. This is a fund raiser for scholarships. There are openings for the Gin Tournament, Tour-nament, both a.m. and p.m. tickets. Meetings will resume September 4. Beaux Arts see local art work Beaux Arts Gub was held at the home of Norma Wardle Wednesday, April 24. Joyce Kremin, vice president, presi-dent, conducted. The program, given by Gayle Ferguson, was entitled, "The Art Around Us." She showed many beautiful items from famous and local artists. Local artists featured were Valoy Eaton, paintings; Phylis O'Brien and Maureen Spencer, tole painting; Rahena Caldwell, calligraphy, etching, egg sculpturing; Frank Andreason, poetry, sculpturing; sculptur-ing; Charlie Moore, rock people and figures; Isabel Batty, doll making; Julie Brooks, stained glass; Troy Burton, Bur-ton, handmade violin and mandolin, wood gun set, tapestry; and Deena Millecam, framed puzzles. Each club member then showed their own artwork, most of which was handwork. A copy of the poem "Life's Autumn Journey," by Frank Andreason, An-dreason, was presented to each person present. A fruit salad was served to eleven members and one guest, Mrs. Wanda Calder. The next meeting will be held at the home of President Clara Price on Wednesday, May 15. There were eight members present. Billye Durkee officiated at the installation in-stallation of officers for 1985-86.
