Show Melvin S. Burningham BOUNTIFUL-Melvin Stoker Burningham died April 16, 1990 in his home in Bountiful. He was born I Dec. 23, 1912 in Bountiful to William Judson and Mary Burningham Burn-ingham Stoker. He was raised by his maternal grandparents, grand-parents, John Henry and Emma Corbridge Burningham Burn-ingham after his service with Utah State University for 31 years. The community and professional organizations in which he served included in-cluded the Davis County Council of Aging, the AARP Program, the Salt Lake Garden Club, Executive Secretary Secre-tary of the Utah Horticultural Society and as a member and president of UV Epsilon Sigma Phi fraternity. He married Laurel Jensen from Blackfoot, Ida. in the Salt Lake Temple Tem-ple June 7, 1939. Surviving children are Mrs. Gale (Joyce) Larson, Wellsville; M. Ross Burningham, New York City; Mrs. Robert (Marianne) Chamberlain, Farmington; Knstine Blundell, Mesa, Ariz.; David and Lori Burningham, Woods Cross; Mrs. Mark (Cheryl) Shafer, Gig Harbor, Wash.; John and Sheri Burningham, Salt Lake City; and Mrs. Joe (Kalynn) Caldwell, Bountiful; 27 grandchildren; brother, Newell and a half-sister. Norma, preceded him in death. A surviving sister, Mrs. Vee (Mary) Waddoups, lives in Bountiful along with other surviving aunts with whom he grew up as brother and sisters. They are Myrintha Gill, Margaret Barlow and Edna (Ted Melville, all of Bountiful. Funeral services were held April 20 in the Bountiful Second LDS Ward. Interment, Bountiful City Cemetery. Funeral directors, Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary. mother died when he was two years old. He was an active member of the LDS Church and served in various positions beginning in Bountiful and in the other areas where he lived. From 1978 to 1981 he served as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake LDS Temple after which he and his vife, Laurel, filled a one-year mission in tlk, Philippine Manila Mission. Melvin attended school in Bountiful Boun-tiful and Davis High School and later graduated with a B.S. and an M.S. degree from Utah State University. He worked as a county extension agent in Salt Lake, Washington and Weber counties and retired in 1976 after working as an area horticulturist in Salt Lake, Davis and Tooele counties.
