Show Lady 'Cats lose game, but hope to gain experience By JOHN W.CANNON "We're looking at this as a learning learn-ing experience," said coach Kevin Wilson as his Woods Cross girls' Softball team lost yet another game in this year's season. The 'Cats lost to Tooele 34-2 last week, bringing their season total to one win, "and too many to mention," men-tion," losses. This is the first year girls soft-ball soft-ball has been played at the school. "We have a bunch of girls who have never played softball before," said Wilson. Junior Amy Turman has been pitching for the Wildcats. "Until a month-and-a-half ago she had never thrown a pitch in her life," said Wilson. "She is a great athlete, and plays on the basketball and volleyball teams. In softball, pitching pit-ching is critical, and Amy is just getting to where she can keep them over the plate," he said. "We have played close in a couple cou-ple of games, but most of them have been blowouts," continued Wilson. "There is really no way that we can be competitive against the more experienced ex-perienced teams right now. Our goal is to give it our best shot regardless of the outcome. Every game and practice we learn something new. We try to keep it light and have a good time," he said. "We have a great bunch of gals. They really try hard," said Wilson. Sophomore Denise Bo am is the team's catcher and is one of the few girls with competitive experience. "She gives spark to the team," said Wilson. Other talent includes Lori Kirkwood at third base. "She gets down in the dirt and doesn't let things get by her," said Wilson. Senior Mindy Traeden plays field and shortstop, and is one of the team's top hitters. |
