Show 4 County volunteers organize March of Dimes WalkAmerica : March of Dimes WalkAmerica, a 20-kilometer walk-a-thon to prevent pre-vent birth defects, kicks off at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 28, in Bountiful Boun-tiful at the Five Points Mall, 1610 S. Main Street Local WalkAmerica chairperson. Brent Twitchell, and the sponsoring amateur Radio Club say approximately approx-imately 300 Bountiful walkers will be in step with 8,000 other Utah participants next Saturday in 28 routes organized by volunteers around the state. Twitchell explained that the route heads north on 300 West to Pages Lane and as far south as 1000 North, Nor-th, back south on 400 East, east to Davis Boulevard going as far south as North Canyon Road, turning back on Orchard Drive and back to the start point. "Walkers should wear comfor- table, sturdy shoes and wool or cotton socks," Hawkes advises. 'Layered clothing will help walkers adjust for weather and body heat during the walk. ' The March of Dimes is funding more than 25 local research and education ed-ucation programs aimed at preventing preven-ting birth defectsUtah's number one childhood health problem. It is estimated that birth defects, like spina bifida, cystic fibrosis and 2,000 others, claim a life every day in Utah. "We need Davis County's sup-port," sup-port," said Twitchell. "Every kilometer we walk and every pledge we collect helps ensure continued funding for birth defects research and education."
