Show Residents set recycling pattern for others to follow B OUNTIFUL--Eff ort s to recycle arc just beginning in Davis County and Bountiful seems to be setting the pattern for other cities to follow. Under the leadership of Celestia Brunsdale and the Citizens Voluntary Volun-tary Recycling Committee, recycling recycl-ing sites for several materials have been established at different sites in the city. The proceeds raised through recycling are used to purchase trees and for other environmental purposes. pur-poses. In celebration of Recycling Day (Tuesday), a flowering cherry tree, purchased with profits earned from recycling, was planted near Boun-tiful's Boun-tiful's Public Safety Building. On Saturday, April 21 at 9 a.m. at Mueller Park Picnic Area (the top of 1800 South Street), Earth Day will be celebrated. Local leaders and elected officials will speak. Volunteers will plant 200 blue spruce trees purchased from funds generated from the Bountiful Recycling program. A representative from the WasatchCache Wa-satchCache National Forest will oversee the tree planting activity. Boy Scouts will conduct the flag raising ceremony. The Bountiful Recycling Committee Com-mittee has been giving a slide presentation pre-sentation entitled, "You can make a difference," during the month of April to school groups in the Bountiful Boun-tiful area. The week of April 22 to 27 has been designated as Earth Awareness Week at Mueller Park Junior High School. Activities have been planned by the science department along with Allison Ogden, student chairperson and Mrs. Muna, school principal. These activities include a poster contest with prizes, an essay contest in the English classes, daily announcements an-nouncements on earth preservation issues, the planting of three trees, one for each grade on the school grounds and a display of posters in the halls. Many Girl Scout troops throughout Davis County will participate par-ticipate in special Earth Day service projects. These include cleanup projects, pro-jects, and treeflower planting activities ac-tivities in many of the city parks. |
