Show I '- - iSWWKEZ ,2VfT!V-. " I Viewmont High School Musical Theatre Company will present its biggest show yet attempted. '42nd Street' will be presented Wednesday through Saturday, March 7-1 0 in the Viewmont auditorium. '42nd Street' presented by Viewmont Broadway show. The characters are all well known to audiences of musicals; Julian Marsh, the director (played by Rich Benson); Billy Lawlor, "one of Broadway's better juveniles" (played by Paul Cutler); and the established star, Dorothy Brock (played by Meghan Dover); whose "sugar daddy" is putting up the money for the show. While the show is on the road in Philadelphia, Dorothy falls and breaks her ankle, giving Peggy her big chance to become a star. Along the way the audiences meets all the people that make show business come to life on the stage and continue con-tinue to make young performers want to come and try their luck on the "Great White Way." This is the biggest show the VHS Company has attempted, with a singing dancing cast of one hundred performers requiring 500 costumes, a fleet of seamstresses and thousands of hours from cast, staff and technical crew. Jeanne McGuire is the director; Jack Berger, technical director, Kelly Kel-ly Monson, costume designer, and Jaxine Rodgers, production manager. The production will run Wednesday Wednes-day through Saturday, March 7-10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Viewmont auditorium. Tickets are reserved seating and may be obtained at VHS from 2:30 until 3 p.m. each day or by calling 299-2065 weekdays from 7:30 until 3:30 p.m. ITie Viewmont High School Musical Theatre Company will present pre-sent "42nd Street" as its annual production. The students have been rehearsal since January, and opening night will be March 7. "42nd Street" ran for eight years on Broadway, from 1980 to 1988, and is currently being produced by amateur and professional companies com-panies all across the United States. The musical is based on the original 1933 Busby Berkely movie and contains such well-known songs as "We're in the Money," "Shuffle Off to Buffalo" and "Lullaby of Broadway." It's about a hopeful young dancer, Peggy Sawyer (played by Emily Bender) who comes to New York to try to get into her first |
