Show Washington Elenu w has new camcorder In a special assembly May 29, the students of Washington Elementary of Bountiful received receiv-ed a new camcorder from K.O. Murdock, new car sales manager, Murdock Chevrolet of Bountiful, for participating in the national Driving for Education program sponsored by Chevrolet dealers across the nation. In accepting the camcorder, Dr. Deon Stevens, principal, j said, "This new piece of equip- & ment will be put to good use by both teachers and students. ' ' The Driving for Education is a national program available from Murdock Chevrolet and Geo to benefit local schools so they can get free equipment Schools can receive free equipment in exchange for the students' (LI parents test-driving 1992 Chevrolets and Geos. Parents receive a certificate and the school turns in the certificates cer-tificates to Murdock. When a pre-determined number of certificates cer-tificates are tallied, schools may select equipment from six different award levels. The Driving for Education program at Washington Elemen- . tary was coordinated by the PTA ' president, Sharon Preston, who arranged with the parents to visit Murdock and Ron Munns, who coordinated the project from , i Murdock. Murdock explained that those who come in for a test drive will not be under any pressure or obligation to purchase a vehicle. "Obviously, we're hoping that parents will like our product and come back at a later date to do business," he said. "We also get the satisfaction of helping the students in our area," explained Murdock. At Washington Elementary, Dr. Stevens said, "We saw the Driving for Education program as mutually advantageous. With no cost to parents or to taxpayers, tax-payers, we are able to enhance the equipment available to students. ' ' A variety of products are available for schools including Apple Macintosh LD HD 40 color system with MacWrite JJ and MacPaint software. Magnavox movie camera, color TV and VCR combination and a complete set of Compton's Encyclopedias En-cyclopedias are some of the products pro-ducts that are available. As a business and education partnership, the program relies on the enthusiasm and organiza-tional organiza-tional efforts of area PTAs. In addition to Washington Elementary School, a number of local elementary and junior high schools are participating in the program with Murdock Chevrolet Geo. |
