Show Dads are not all deadbeats J Today's newspapers are filled with stories about fathers who have failed. Headlines scream about men who have committed crimes against society, or their families. News about deadbeat dads who do not pay child support, sup-port, or in other ways fail in their obligation as fathers, are common. com-mon. Seldom do we read news about fathers who are successful. suc-cessful. The news tells us that there are no role model fathers left. It would seem from recent movies, television shows and advertising that America's favorite sport is male-bashing. In light of this development it would not be surprising to see a new fall show entitled "Father Never Knows Best,' or "Father Knows Little If Anything." L J Each of us knows fathers who are dedicated to rearing their children as model citizens. Each of us knows fathers who make sacrifices to ensure that their children will not suffer. With Sunday being Father's Day, it's a good time to reflect on and honor the fathers that are r - LB l 'r n - - s - . a success. And they are out there. Just look at the recent Father's Day insert in the June 16 edition of the Clipper. Max Forbush, for example, was named Farmington's Clipper Great Dad contest winner. As city manager, Forbush For-bush travels to St. George every spring to attend the Utah City Managers Meeting. Some fathers, or mothers for that matter, might see this as an opportunity for a welcome vacation vaca-tion from family responsibilities. But Forbush takes his wife and children along and turns the outing into a famiry affair. We congratulate all those fathers who, like the Clipper Great Dad winners and nominees, nomi-nees, ignore naysayers' constant male-bashing and continue in their struggle to keep the American standard of fatherhood alive. Happy Father's Day! |
