Show Annual Sidewalk Days sale getting better and better Congratulations Bountiful downtown merchants! The an-v an-v nual Sidewalk Days sale is fantastic. Crowds turned out in record numbers to peruse the items being sold, obviously pleased with their purchases. Busy clerks and cashrcgistcrs testified to the success of thi anrual event. Merchants could not have been more pleased with die turn-out. Gone were the complaints about "old" merchandise being - dragged out of the storeroom and being used year after year. The items displayed this year were obviously of up-to-date fashions and the latest in trendy merchandise. Shoppers enjoyed en-joyed the wide variety of items to choose from. Some buys were just too good to pass up, even if the item wasn't really needed! Shoppers were extremely pleased to be able to do back-to-school shopping for all the school-bound children in the family, fami-ly, feeling secure that the styles they were taking home to their children would satisfy and delight them. There was no fear that the clothes would be last year's style. Sales were not an excuse to get rid of items that did not sell in years gone by. Rather, they were a great chance for shoppers to pick up quality merchandise mer-chandise at very reasonable prices. Merchants went out of their way to provide innovative "draws" to their stores. The Children's Hour Book Room had a huge green book-worm in front, measuring at least 25 feet long by 3 feet in diameter. The worm proved to draw in the adults as well as the children. After all, if one was that close, he should at least check out the store. Shoppers, satisfied with new books, were glad they had checked out the worm. As is to be expected in the middle of summer, the weather was hot, but stores had made provisions for that too. Bright and colorful red, white and blue awnings supplied shade and enticed the shoppers to linger a little longer. The shade also provided some shop-weary husbands with a little relief. Even the atmosphere was improved this year. Clerks seemed pleased to be assisting customers, and customers were appreciative ap-preciative of the attention. No longer can Bountiful'? Main Street be accused of looking look-ing out-of-date. The attractive buildings and clean look of the street do not go unnoticed or unappreciated by shoppers. The blossoming flowers also add to the pleasantness of the area. It was good to see all the parking spaces along Main filled with cars belonging to shoppers. In fact, the parking lots of several side-street businesses were also overflowing as people felt it was worth the walk to get to the bargains, and so it was. It was not uncommon for shoppers to check out the bargains, go home and tell a friend about them, and come back for more. When shoppers were questioned about their opinion of Sidewalk Days this year, there were statements like, "It has never been better," and "I'm certainly glad we didn't miss it." ; ... . , the Bountiful merchants certainly "got 'their 'act together" this year. Sidewalk Days will run through this weekend to give residents a chance to participate in the greatest Sidewalk Days sale in Bountiful' s history. |
