Gayle Stevenson has announced that, for the first time, $10,000 has been made available from the Golden Spike Empire fund for promotion of activities to encourage tourism in the area. . The commissioner recently at-' tended a meeting of the Golden Spike Empire, whose funds are obtained ob-tained from a percentage of motel room rental fees. At that meeting, the decision was made to split half of the $10,000 among cities to help bring attention and travelers to Utah. That was good news for Cary Stevens Jones, director of the Boun tifulDavis Art Center, and for those involved with the 1989 Mainstreet USA Summerfest scheduled for Aug. 11-12 in Bountiful. Director Jones approached the commission in early July for funds to attract "quality professional entertain- menL" At that time, the art center was requesting $2,000. Com, Stevenson said that the Golden Spike Empire Committee approved only $1,000. Com. Lawrence noted that while the amount was less than had been asked ask-ed for, the amount did seem fair. Jerry Hess, attorney, commented that the amount was "more than they've had before." |
