She wants to advance and be independent Although her family lives in Clearfield, Lisa has chosen to live near her job in a Project TURN supervised living apartment "I am working really hard,' ' Lisa said. "Learning a job is harder than going to school."- BOUNTIFUL -- On June 30, Lisa Shradley became the , fifth PARC client to earn a high school diploma. "I had to make myself see , how good I could do," Lisa said of this major accomplishment .. . A high school diploma for an in-. tellectually and emotionally. han-. dicapped person like Lisa means she had to overcome many obstacles. One important block to her progress was severe emotional problems that interfered with learning learn-ing both at school and on the job. Lisa's quest for a diploma started at Layton High School and Clearfield Clear-field High where she took special classes in the academic , subjects plus regular classes that would count " towards " graduation. A diploma : through PARC involves " more than academic Reparation. . Lisa had to develop a suitable IEP (Individual Education Plan) that would successfully place her in a competitive' job situation. - She started as a . housekeeper at Lakeview Hospital on a part-time basis in 1988. Later, through a custom fit training program, : she moved to , the hospital laundry where she earned a good wage and |
