Show 'Cotton' comes to Union Movies "Cotton Comes to Harlem" is a hard-hitting, action-packed detective detec-tive thriller. The question that is asked through half of the movie is "What the hell is a bale of cotton doing in Harlem?" The answer: It's stuffed with 87 grand. After that, the big question is "Where the hell is that bale of cotton?" They don't mince words in this film. The story centers around a black "preacher" who is stealing money from "his own" people by selling shares in a ship called "The Black Beauty." The reason the black people are buying shares in this boat is because each share is a ticket back to Africa by way of "The Black Beauty." The "preacher" strikes up a partnership with an ex-con and together they conceive a way to take the money and run. But there is police interference and they mess up the whole operation. Then things get pretty wild. People start getting killed all over the place. There are a lot of shoot-outs-scme involving the police. The cops don't seem to be very ethical: They use whatever is available. It's kind of raunchy to see somebody get shot with a flare gun right in the stomach. It's rough. It's gory. At some places it's so sickening and unbelievable that you just have to laugh. If you thing "NYPD" or "Ironside" "Iron-side" are heavy, you ain't seen nothing till you've seen "Cotton Comes to Harlem." The movie is being shown in OSH Auditorium Friday and Saturday at 6:30 and 9:30p.m. |
