Dr. Apple was keynote speaker Thursday night as the College of Pharmacy sponsored the program "Emerging Roles of the Pharmacist." Pharma-cist." Dr. Williams said more government govern-ment attention is needed to health needs and each health area should let it be . known to legislative power the best ways for them to operate. "The major problem in pharmacy phar-macy today is that the pharmacist is not able to use all they have learned," said Dr. Apple. The pharmacist is schooled from five up to six years receiving the knowledge of the action and use of drugs. "He is the drug expert," said Dr. Apple. He felt that with this training the pharmacist is best suited to decide and perscribe drug usage for patients. "With emphasis on conserving thephysician's'ime the pharmacist should be given the job of carefully care-fully screening the drugs," said Dr. Apple. "With more people being exposed to self-medication man perscribed, the patient should be able to ask the pharmacist about advice and care," continued Dr. Apple. A more effective health man-; man-; power could be developed, Dr. i Apple expressed, if the concept of ; independence and respect was given the pharmacist which would show that the 'pharmacist belongs to the patient." Dr. Apple was glad to see that the negative attitude of organized medicine was fading towards pharmacists. phar-macists.
