Show Utes In Pikes Peak Tourney The University of Utah golf team left Wednesday for Colorado Springs, Colo, to compete in the Pikes Peak Invitational Golf Tournament Tourn-ament May 10 and 11. The Ute linksters will meet some of the top golf teams in the country in the tuneup for the WAC championships May 17 and 18 in Cheyenne, Wyo. In addition to most of the Western Athletic Conference schools, the meet will include such golf powers as top-ranked Houston and the University Uni-versity of Colorado. The Utes, who finished fifth in last year's WAC meet in Albuquerque, have been rapidly improving lately and hope to do better this year at the Fran cis E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne. Utah currently sports a 3-6 dual meet record, including matches with many of the country's top teams. In the Utes' latest match, they defeated Weber State in a surprisingly sur-prisingly close match, I62-IO2. Utah also holds victories over Northern Arizona and an early season win over Weber State. Reid Goodliffe has been the number num-ber one man for Coach Vinnie Mc-Guire Mc-Guire most of the season, and along with George Jackson, Dave Jenkins, Jen-kins, Mike Wagstaff, Dick Palmer and Marty Becker, will try for an upset in the Pikes Peak Invitational. |
