Show U Architects Plan Design-In Eight nationally prominent architects archi-tects and 30 University architecture students are staging a "design-in" to help solve the building problems of California public schools. Coordinated by the University, the project is being sponsored jointly by the California State Department of Education's Bureau of School Planning. A $72,000 civil defense grant was awarded to the University last year. Delbert B. Ward, associate professor profes-sor of architecture and "design-in" coordinator, says the purpose of the brainstorming session is, "to improve im-prove school buildings and to incorporate in-corporate fallout protection into California schools." Erect Models Professional architects have been assigned to groups of third and fourth year architecture students. The teams are drafting plans and erecting scale models to improve existing schools in six California school districts. The architects will-return to the Utah campus next month to meet with their student co-workers and finalize recommendations. The result re-sult of the study will be published by the Office of Civil Defense. |
