Show Tennis Stars Compete In Salt Lake in mass for the big meet. Harold Sears, the number three man in the lineup last season, will be one of the better players in the tournament. Sears is in his senior year at Utah and should go quite a way in singles sing-les competition. Mike Waldrum and Laury Hammel, two other Ute stars of 1967, will also enter singles and doubles competition. Waldrum and Hammel were the numbers five and six men on Harry James' tennis ten-nis squad last season and will be participating in their sophomore years in the coming tennis season. Other Utah varsity prospects include in-clude Dale Fritz, Dick Svederman, Paul Hoffman, and Gene Malin. Two other local stars, though not currently affiliated with the University, will also be players to watch in the tourney. Jim Osborne, former Utah great who graduated last year, will be on hand as one of the top prospects as a Davis Cup Team member. Osborne, who rewrote re-wrote most of the tennis record books at Utah, is currently rated as one of the top amatuers in the nation. Salt Lake tennis fans, such as they are, will be treated to one of the biggest indoor tennis meets held in the United States this weekend week-end when the Salt Lake Tennis Club and Harry James host the Western Indoor Championships. Most of the nations top amateur tennis players are entered in the annual tournament that will be held Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Satur-day. The play should be of high caliber through the tournament as many participants are vying for Davis Cup consideration and will give their all in every set. Thursday's action will start at 9:00 a.m. and run through the entire en-tire day. Morning matches will be devoted to singles competition, with 16 doubles contests scheduled for the afternoon and another 16 singles matches in the evening. Quarter finals in both singles and doubles will be Friday. Semi-finals in the singles will be Saturday afternoon aft-ernoon with finals in the singles and doubles ending the tournament Friday night.
