Show Big Jeff Ockel has been a blooming star under the boards for Utah this season and hopes to be at his best against Utah State Saturday in Logan. Undefeated Utes Face Utah State In Logan After three impressive victories, Utah will get a pretty good glimpse of just how good they are when the Utes travel to Logan Saturday to meet Utah State University. In their NCAA opener, Utah beat Texas Tech, 70-58, and followed up with a 95-84 win over a good Colorado Col-orado club Monday. The Utes will meet a good Aggie team that was romped by nationally ranked Kansas, Kan-sas, 84-55, and beat Xavier of Ohio Monday night. Redskin Coach Jack Gardner will be facing one of his more successful success-ful understudies in Ladell Anderson, Ander-son, who has built up an impressive impres-sive 108 wins against 54 losses in his seven year reign as head mentor men-tor at USU. Anderson was a former form-er assistant coach to Gardner from 1956 to 1961. The two coaches have developed one of the finest rival ries in the west, and Saturday's contest will be an example of the outstanding performances turned in when these two teams meet. Utah will feature a well-balanced scoring attack, led by guard-forward Merv Jackson, who has been a bit cold from the field thus far in the season, but who is still a threat to any team in the nation. Jeff Ockel will man the center slot, and should receive his toughest test of the early season against a crop of big Aggie front men. Lyndon Lyn-don MacKay and Joe English will start at forwards, and the Utes will need a lot of points from these two if there is any hope of winning. Speedy Walt Simon will start at the other guard position, teaming up with Jackson for their burning fast-break fast-break team. |
