Show Notes from the Underground Columnist Leaves For Two Year Sabatical By GORDON IRVING This is my last column. This page has been printed in non-smearable non-smearable ink in case you are moved to let tears fall on it. I wish to first say something about the Chronicle. I have enjoyed en-joyed working for the paper very much. I have found that the members mem-bers of the staff are extremely dedicated to the job of putting out this newspaper. The staff is smaller small-er than it perhaps ought to be, but the size of the staff makes the job that has been done all the more remarkable. I think a good many of the faults of this quarter's Chronicle have been due to the small size of the staff. Having said this, I now wish to say something about the University Univers-ity in general: I hope that you'll all work hard to take good care of the old U. while I'm gone Be careful not to let the Greeks or the athletics department or the April Committee get out of hand; don't wear holes in all the new lawns by walking on them too much; don't be apathetic about truly important things. Maybe by 1970 you will have restructured the ASUU government or abolished abolish-ed it altogether and found a suitable suit-able substitute. I have enjoyed my five quarters on campus I like the campus itself it-self for some reason or other that its hard to analyze. (I threw that in in case you think I'm nothing but negative.) There are a lot of good things going on at this university uni-versity and a considerable ambuht of education taking place. Of course I feel that some things here are less than perfect. I hope that your reaction to these things will be to take action to improve conditions con-ditions that ought to be improved. But enough space taken my columns have always been over-long. over-long. Good luck to all of you with your further university experiences experi-ences and your pursuit of an education. edu-cation. And Merry Christmas to you as well. |
