Show Residence Halls To Judge Christmas Decoration Judging in the dormitory Christmas decorating competition will take place Wednesday, according to Richard Barrett, residence hall association associa-tion member. Residence halls taking part in the contest are Ballif Hall, Austin Hall, Van Cott Hall and Carlson Hall. Ron Carson, Residence Hall Association president will present the winning dormitory with a check for twenty dollars, reported Barrett. 'That will be just enough to buy everyone who participated in the project some cookies and Coke," commented Barrett. Residents of the residence halls have decorated their individual rooms and overall areas. The entire project was designed to give the on-campus students a taste of the holidays and help them to get involved in the spirit of Christmas, "especially those who will be staying in the residence halls over the holidays." To give each hall a head start Bruce Zenger, director of the residence halls, provided each residence hall lounge with a Christmas tre. Many x.-opie living in the dorms have also chipped in and bought trees for their individual floors, said Barrett. "As a matter of fact on the third floor of Ballif where I stay, we stuck a Christmas tree in a trash can for everyone to see." Streamers have been placed up and down the hall, individual doors have been decorated up to resemble Christmas packages and windows have been frosted white. "Most of the students will be going home for at least two weeks to celebrate the holidays," said Barrett. "It's the time of the year when the residence halls become desolate and deserted." He added that Christmas Christ-mas was also a time when every student living in the dorms gets a present. "When we come back in January, all the mess that we've made has been cleaned up by the janitors, the floors are shiny, and we have something more than dreary, drab surroundings." |
