Show Assistance check to be mailed first of month Effective August 1 and each month thereafter, public assistance assis-tance checks will be mailed to reach recipients on the first day of each month. In view of affirmative responses by the banks to Governor Calvin L. Rampton's request of the banking bank-ing industry, particularly with the Clearing House Association of Salt Lake City, the Utah Division of Family Services has rescinded its previously published pub-lished policy to distribute public pub-lic assistance checks the fifth of the month. This will conform with former selling dates for food stamps in local banks. Richard P. Lindsay, director, Utah Division of Family Services, Ser-vices, has requested each Utah Congressman to support pending pend-ing legislation to amend and improve the distribution features fea-tures of the current Food Stamp Program. Under pending amendments now being considered consid-ered by the Congress, food stamps would be issued directly from welfare offices to low-income people and recipients of public assistance who qualify to receive these stamps. The purchase price of stamps would then be deducted from the monthly assistance grants issued is-sued to recipients of public assistance. as-sistance. This group constitutes the majority of participants in the present food stamp program. pro-gram. Such a system of distribution dis-tribution would be more convenient con-venient and less expensive for all concerned. |
