He and his family are busy with a sprinkling system on land purchased for holding future building in Bushman Acres. He is in electrical elec-trical maintenance work with Kaiser Steel. Reminder Descendants of Anthon Niel-son Niel-son are invited to attend a family reunion to be held Saturday Sat-urday on the park at 4:00 o'clock. The Roger Evans family spent four days in and around Rawlins, Wyoming, last week. They were house guests of John ' Young . . . returned home by', way of Flaming Gorge. Mapleton Ward Primary officers of-ficers cooked breakfast for 80 people on the church patio recently. re-cently. Breakfast was served -at 6:00 a.m. to the Trail Build- ) er boys and parents. The boys furnished a short program from -talent in the group. The hearts of all in our community com-munity are saddened with the news of the death of Ramon Hales in Vietnam. First Lt. Edward Wiscombe, was the military escort. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Larsen and family of Emmett, Idaho, and other relatives from Idaho and Montana came to attend the funeral services. Dr. Carol Draper Dra-per and family of Logan and relatives from Genoa were also at the services. Camper travel is a very popular pop-ular way for families to vacation. vaca-tion. The Verl Davies family took a little trip to Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm and south to see the New Sea World in San Diego. They also visited with John R. Bartholomew at Rowland Heights and had a swim in the ocean near Whit-tier Whit-tier Beach. Husband Frank, and our son Morris in company with Gary and Byron Rasmussen, headed out this morning for a five day trip to the high Uintahs. They took enough food for Cox's Army. This will be their third aassault on King's Peak. They hope to catch a few brookies along the way and improve on the outdoor cooking. Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Curtis are grandparents of a baby girl born to the Douglas Curtis' of Orem. This is number three daughter for Doug. The Eugene F. Davies family (Sally Duncan) from Denver are over for a short vacation with grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Conover of Springville. On Monday, they went with other members of the Davies family to Vernal, where they attended funeral services for grandmother El-mira El-mira Snow, mother of Winona F. Davies. Burial wa sin the Fairview Cemetery. Once each month the riding club gives up the ponies to include in-clude their wives in some kind cf social. A steak fry was on the agenda for Saturday night and about 25 members took pot' luck and enjoyed a very delicious deli-cious meal. The club seems to keep very active . . . once in a while I see some of the high steppers pass the house. SSgt. Edward Joe Halverson son of Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Halverson is serving in the Army Air Corps in Germany. Joe recently signed to extend his stay in the Corps for four more years. He likes the military mil-itary and is considering a twenty year hitch. A note of interest to friends of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Cox . . . they have been modeling for a portrait class at BYU the past week. The artists are mostly graduate students working on masters degrees. They say its amazing to see yourself as others oth-ers see you. This column is being written between various and sundry projects today ... it may come out sounding like marmalade. Step into our country kitchens now days with their good cooks in charge and you'll see sights to compare with any state fair. Jars of home canned foods line the cupboards . . . raspberries, apricots, applesauce, beans and beets . . . and all those delicious de-licious jams and jellies that taste so good on winter pancakes. pan-cakes. I'm going to try to dupe Ella Edmunds into divulging her secret recipe for pickles. I'll trade her for my "never fail" the one that never turns out right. Speaking of good food, Loeen Whiting treated fourteen lovelies love-lies to a blanch last Tuesday. The occasion was the sixteenth birthday of daughter Lynette. And I can just imagine the goodies they had to eat 'cause Loeen is a gal that knows her way around in a kitchen. She is pleased to have her sister Carma Martin's daughter Patricia Pa-tricia here from Baltimore, Maryland, for a short stay, and is expecting son, Sid, home from dental school next week. Patricia will be seeing her Springville aunts and uncles too. Lt. and Mrs. Dennis Baker and little son, Scott, visited last week with his grandparents, grandpar-ents, Mr. and Mrs. James Whiting. Whit-ing. They are living at Oahu, Hawaii, Ha-waii, where Dennis is with the Naval Air Force. They were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Max Whiting at Orem one night while here and spent two days fishing at Strawberry Lake. They left Monday for California, Cal-ifornia, where they will visit Dennis' parents before returning return-ing to Hawaii. Marine Private First Class David Selman has spent three weeks on leave before reporting to Camp Pendleton, California, where he will pick up orders for over seas. His wife, the former for-mer Elva Gubler, is living with her parents in Springville. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Selman. Marvin Ruttenbur, son of Creta Whiting Danner is visiting visit-ing with aunts, Leah, Gay and Levina for a few days. His family is living at Travis Air Force Base where Mr. Danner is stationed at the present time. Mrs. Fern Huchins, with Mr, and Mrs. Harry Bryan of Spirit Lake, Iowa, have been houseguests of the Wave Miguel's. Mi-guel's. Mrs. Huchins went on to Hermet, California, and will be tack to spend several days with her sister, Vivian. Mr. and Mrs. Jess Nebel (Norma Johnson) stayed ovre-night ovre-night with her folks, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Johnson, on their way to Hunter to visit with their son, Lonnie. Jess and Norma Nor-ma live in Medicine Bow, Wyoming Wy-oming . . . and someday we're gcing to take them up on a long standing invitation to hunt antelope on their ranch. Mary Ellen Edmunds with three associates from Utah Valley Val-ley Hospital are wending their way eastward (staying with college friends along the way) to the pageant. They will also tour points of interest on the East Coast and Canada before leaving for Utah in three weeks. Well they've done it again . . the Tom Averett family with all their togetherness took an auto trip to Fontana, California, Califor-nia, this time tc see Dean and Kathy Binks. Leona and Laurie Wilson and Beth Larsen and son, Allan went along. When one decides to go it doesn't take long for the others to fall in . . . and suchwonderful times they have tripping around. Mapleton police department reported the recovery of $140 of mechanical tools taken from the Kay Marrott property. The recovery was made last week. Young Melinda Snow, niece of Alma Whiting, is having a two week's vacation before returning re-turning to her home in Schrieveport, La and Jimmy Jim-my Middleton of Messa, Arizona, Ari-zona, has returned home from a stay with Dr. and Mrs. P. K. Edmunds. Fish Lake was the scene of State Farm Bureau Summer Workshop last week where the George Sorensons spent four days attending meetings and boating and fishing in between. We're looking forward to some boating on Utah Lake with them next weekend. Darn, I should have bought that new swim suit on the sidewalk sale. Tripping off to Colorado by way of Rocky Mountain National Na-tional Park were Don and Iris Roundy and their neat little camper . . . and Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Daniels with two youngsters went to Mesa Verda from Zion's and Bryce Canyon. |
