Show More waterfowl taken in 1966 An increase in the number of hunters and in the number of birds harvested was reported in Utah's 1966 waterfowl harvest har-vest report released by the Department De-partment of Fish and Game this week as Utah's duck hunting hunt-ing produced another record year. John Nagel, waterfowl biologist biol-ogist for the Fish and Game Department said generally good hunting conditions combined with good populations of local and migrant birds were major factors in producing a record harvest for Utah. There were 36,176 waterfowl hunters afield during the past season and they harvested 458, 154 ducks along with 19,824 geese. Canada geese accounted for a majority of the geese taken, ta-ken, 17,997 with the balance being snow geese. The 1966 report re-port noted an increase of 5,158 hunters and an increase in the duck harvest of 56,961 birds over 1965. Holders of the 1,000 whistling swan permits bagged 491 birds, and again Ogden Bay Waterfowl Water-fowl Management Area was the most popular hunting area. The coop eration received from the public in returning kill questionnaires and in-field checks to determine the harvest was available and will help in the proper management of Utah's . waterfowl resource. |
