(Bill) Duncan, popular highway patrolman of this city, was named the "Outstanding "Out-standing Police Officer of the Year in Utah County," Thursday Thurs-day evening of last week, by the Squaw Peak Chapter of the International Footprinters Association. As-sociation. At the same time he received receiv-ed the Reverence For Law award from the Provo Aerie of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. It is the first annual award to outstanding peace officers. of-ficers. Trooper Duncan is a 36-year old native of Springville and he and his wife and boys, ages 14, 12, and 10, live at 1140 East Hillcrest Drive. He is a past president of the Central Utah Peace Officers Association and of the Springville Spring-ville 20-30 Club. A member of the board of directors of the Utah Peace Officers Association, he has been chairman of the UPOA pistol committee for the past three years and has been a member of the Highway Patrol Pa-trol pistol team for nine years. William T. (Bill) Duncan, of this city, a highway patrolman, pa-trolman, has been cited by the Squaw Peak Chapter of International Footp ri n t e r s Association as the outstanding outstand-ing police officer of the year. His wife, Gerry, is president of the UPOA Auxiliary. He is a son of Mrs. Josephine Conover Con-over of this city. Mr. Duncan is vice president of the Mill Creek Little League Baseball (his three boys are active in the Little League" program), pro-gram), and is safety advisor for the Springville Junior High PTA. He is charter president of the Springville Rotary Club. The honored police officer spent four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and won the Navy Commendation Commenda-tion Medal for bravery for risking his life to save another. He also received the Navy Unit Un-it Commendation and the Good Conduct medals. Following his release from the Navy, he joined the Springville Spring-ville Police Department and served for two years. Then in : 1956 he joined the Utah Highway High-way Patrol and moved to Springville after working with the patrol for one year in Salt Lake City. Mr. Duncan was the 17th Utah County Police officer to receive the award since its beginning be-ginning in 1949. Sgt. Max Lit-tlefield Lit-tlefield of the Provo Police Department won the award last year. |
