Show Coordinating Council gives hand in major community problems with city and club representatives, representa-tives, August 9. A report on the July 4th celebration planned by the Council, indicated that not all wards who were expected to participate, took part. The 12th Ward, however, reported making mak-ing $150 on a food booth. Council members are of the opinion that Springville should have a day of their own to celebrate and not compete with other towns. A possible day could be in connection with the art opening, it was suggested. It has been proposed by City Attorney Robert Sumsion, that the Coordinating Council be made a part of the city council on the books, it was announced at a meeting of the group on Monday evening. The proposal suggested another an-other section to the Council's constitution under Article 2. The new section "C" would read as follows:: "that the council be made an arm of the city council and shall undertake under-take such studies, researches and promotions as the city council shall designate." The name of the council was also changed at the meeting from City Development Council to City Coordinating Council. At the regular meeting of the Coordinating Council which followed a meeting with city organization r e p r e sentatives, Mrs. Grace Alleman, chairman of the theater committee, was nmed to work with the proposed pro-posed new steering committee on the theater project. The committee is to work out details of purchasing, renovating, reno-vating, and management of the theater then present their findings find-ings to Attorney Robert Sumsion, Sum-sion, who will work out legalities legali-ties before another meeting Kay Johnson was appointed to work with other committeemen, committee-men, to determine whether or not to continue with July 4th celebrations. The uniform curfew law was discussed and it was noted that city attorneys and law enforcement enforce-ment officers are working on a uniform curfew law for the county. The council offered support to D. LaRell Johnson of the Youth Council in curbing curb-ing the sale of tobacco to minors min-ors in Springville. A. I. Tippetts reported on suggestions made to the City Council concerning use of the old library building, namely that of a DUP relic hall, a Chamber of Commerce office and meeting place for various clubs. Necessary improvements to the building especially on the floors and painting were listed and the possiblity of procur-ring procur-ring volunteer assistance was that Wilbur Snelson, president of the Chamber of Commerce and Melva Harrison, president of the Federated Council, work with Mr. Tippetts on further details of renovating the building. build-ing.
