Show Pony League tourney continues here tonkht Central, Marin Co., Calif., was handed a 1-0 victory in its game with Springville, Tuesday night as the Western Regional Baseball Tournament opened play. The meet will continue today with games scheduled for 5:30 and 8:00 p.m. In the opening game of the meet, Campbell of Moreland Co., Calif., looked like the team to beat in the meet as they easily downed M.t. Olympus Olym-pus of Salt Lake City, 10-1. The final game of the evening eve-ning was a thrilling pitcher's dual between Springville and Central, Marin Co., Calif. Pitching seven innings each were Springville's pitcher, Steve Averett and Central's, Handlos. Both were replaced in the game with Randall Bird coming in for the locals after Averett got into trouble, and Johnson for Calif. Scoreless for seven innings, the two teams went into an extra inning before Spring-ville's Spring-ville's pitcher walked in the winning run of the contest. Wednesday's schedule saw the two California teams square off in the feature evening eve-ning battle at 8 p.m., while Springville and Mt. Olympus battled at 5:30. Tonight's schedule will pit the Sprtngville-Olympus winner win-ner against the loser of the California team games. The two winners will then play at 8 p.m. |
