Show Regents include susc on list CEDAR CITY The State Board of Regents and the Building Board have approved a proposed capital facilities list for 1983-84 that includes four major improvements for SUSC and Cedar City. The list will be submitted sub-mitted to the legislature in January for inclusion in a recommended $50 million bond issue. Included on the list for SUSC are a general classroom building for . $3.2 million, the Special I Events Center for $2.5 million and a heat plant conversion for $1.5 million. The Cedar Regional Center for State Administration Services is on the list for $1.9 million. The state's extensive needs for a veriety of capital improvements resulted in a broad-based recommendation that the State seek a bond issue to allow construction of 23 facilities in the immediate im-mediate future. About 60 percent of the total bond issue relates to higher education as it copes with rapid growth. "For SUSC these important im-portant projects on the bonding list represent a major milestone for the college," explained SUSC President Gerald R, Sherratt. "The new classroom building and the Special Events Center will replace delapidated buildings that are more than 30 years old and will revitalize the campus and better serve our students and community. The heat plant conversion will allow us to eventually burn coal, making SUSC more fuel efficient and economical." The recommended projects for SUSC, totaling $7.2 million, represent the highest approved amount for the college in its 86-year history. The Special Events Center is estimated to cost $4 million, with $1.5 million to be raised through private fund-raising. |
