Show Cliffhanger 50 finishes PAROWAN - The first annual Parowan Cliffhanger Clif-fhanger 50 is now over, and the final results are in. Eighteen horses and riders were entered in the 50-mile race, and ten entered in the 25-mile novice ride. Entrants ranged in age from 12 to 56 years of age and came from as far away as Denver. Colo, and La Habra, Calif. Finishing times in the 50-mile ride ranged from 4:23 to 6:29. Times were not taken nor placements given in the novice ride to discourage overextending the abilities of both horse and rider. John Dipietra, Desalia, Colo., had the double honor of placing first over-all and winning the much coveted "Best Condition" award, with the winning time of 4:23. The only local horse in the 50-mile race, "Eden," owned by John Rex, and ridden by Jaque Jewkes, Green River, placed second with a time of 4:25. Also riding in the 50-miler 50-miler was the only junior, Shaun Hall, 12, of Pleasant Grove. Among the 30 milers there were five local 1 riders: Celia Morris, 12, " Parowan; Lisa Rowely, 13, Parowan; Judy - Lincoln, Cedar City; , Connie Grove, New i I Castle; and Donna J I Penderson, Beryl. The veterinarians said 1 they had never seen a ' 1 better class of consistent, I top horses come through I the checkpoints. i |
