In other business, the board voted to purchase two 21-passenger, 4-wheel-drive mini-buses, one for travel for Brian Head students, the other for handicapped children. CEDAR CITY - Realization of a vocational complex on the Cedar High School Campus took its first step forward for-ward when the Iron County School Board Tuesday voted to form a 15 to 20 person committee designed to study programs and physical layout of the new structure for the Iron County School District. The action came after the Board thoroughly discussed the pros and cons of whether to consider a joint complex with Southern Utah State College or to structure the complex on their own. Although the decision wasn't unanimous (Marsha Perkins felt the matter should be looked into further), the decision to house a separate complex offered the most advantages, the most important being that the complex would be constructed sooner. Superintendent Clair Morris pointed out that a joint complex would require the approval of many agencies, the most difficult being the State Building Board's priority list, and could take as many as ten years. The vocational complex was one of the recommendations submitted by the Iron District Study Commission, formed for-med to study alternatives to CHS overcrowding; and ten years, therefore, would not allow both needs to be met: to alleviate overcrowding and meet the vocational needs on a short term basis. Studying other joint complexes, such as Weber State, problems could exist concerning scheduling, ownership, location and conducting classes with grade differences from ninth grade through the fourth year of college.
