Show Cedar High swimmers drown SHS Red Devils SPRINGVILLE -Cedar High swimmers paddled past defending Region Eight champs Springville last week in some exciting aquatic action as the CHS boys topped the Springville boys 101-57 and the Redmen girls bested the Red Devil gals 78-61. "All the boys on the team scored points," explained coach Dick Coston. "It was a team effort, and they really did well." Coston also praised the efforts of his girl swimmers. The win was especially satisfying to Coston and his young swimmers because it came over the defending region champs, and it also establishes Cedar as one of the top Class 3-A teams in the state. "We're probably one of the top eight teams in the state," said Coston hopefully. "It's taken us two years to get to that position." The Cedar boys had several double winners against Springville, including Matt Piacitelli in the 200-meter frestyle and 500 freestyle and Justin Jensen in the 50 freestyle and 100-meter butterfly. Jason Jerman also streaked to a win in the 100 freestyle and Lyle Jenson captured first in the 100-meter breaststroke. The 200-meter 200-meter medley relay team and 400-meter freestyle team were both victorious for the boys. In girls action, there were also two double winners, with Michelle Molyneaux w winning the 200 and 500-meter freestyle e events and Leah Jones winning the 50-meter freestyle and 100 backstroke. Trish Fullmer was victorious in the 100-meter breaststroke. Cedar will host South High School from Salt Lake City on Jan. 29-30 if South can afford the travel. The Reds will enter Region Eight competition Feb. 10 and should have good depth in all events, aecording to Coston. |
