Show Planning Commission recommends dropping certain land pieces CEDAR CITY The Cedar City Planning Commission has recommended to the Cedar City Council the abandonment of two pieces of City-owned property. At its Jan. 12 meeting the Commission was approached by Kent Hugh, property owner, who reported that the City has never and probably will never develop the dead-end road at 310 South Ridge Road. After some discussion, the Commission approved a motion that it recommend that the City Council conduct a public hearing concerning the matter and suggested that the 20-foot wide road be split by the adjacent property owners, one of which is Hugh. The other piece of property which the Commission recommended for abandonment is .068 acres located near The Office on 900 South Main. According to Commission secretary Peggy Carrico, the street around The Office has been redesigned with a small section of property located in a position where if the City sold the section, it could possibly block access to The Office. The LJS Associates Club, Office owners, have asked the land be deeded over to them in order to prevent any type of conflict that could develop. In other Commission business The Commission approved, for future meetings, time be set aside on the agenda to have the City Council representative report on the Council decisions to the Commission. City Councilman Lee Fife has been asigned to the Commission, replacing former Councilwoman Barbara Starr. According to Georgia Beth Thompson, Commission chairwoman, work on updating the zoning ordinances continued. The Commission finished looking at commercial zoning and recommended that pages one through seven be passed on to the Council. The Commission received a report on development plans on two pieces of property in Cedar City's proposed annexation plan. The property i is located north of the Cedar City Airport. On one land site, a commercial greenhouse and an outdoor cooking area is planned and there are plans for a custom meat cutting plant on the other section of property. The Commission said that the proposed projects weren't within the City's planned usage if that land was to be annexed. |
