Show Reds drop two games PROVO - The Cedar High Redmen faced perhaps the toughest team in 3-A basketball here Saturday and got their noses bloodied by the powerful Mt. View team 67-46 in the Utah Valley Tournament. The Reds faced Alta in the same tourney on Monday and lost a disappointing 61-56 decision. Against Mt. View, the Reds trailed throughout most of the contest after falling behind 10-1 at the outset of the game. Cedar pulled to within four in the second quarter but the Bruins got hot and reeled off 18 points to put the game out of reach,' Mt. View led at the half 34-16 and were up 51-26 at the end of the third stanza. Big Alan Pollard of Mt. View led a all scorers with 27 points and his brother Carl added 10. For Cedar, Kevin Garrett was the leading point getter with 18 and Robert Nakken contributed 9. On Monday against Alta it was at the foul line where the Alta team won the contest as Cedar hit two more field goals than their opponents. CHS trailed by six at halftime and Alta kept the Reds at bay throughout the second half to win by five. Again Garrett was the leading scorer for Cedar as he picked-up 18, while Kevin Hunter and Rick Lunt hit for 9 and Nakken netted 8. |
