Show Melodramas reviewed by Janet Weaver THE COLORADO INN (in the SUSC auditorium) was filled to over-flowing capacity as the SUSC Drama Club's annual "Night of the Naughty Nineties" opened for it's 1980 run. THE COLORADO INN REVUE which began at 7:30 consisted of musical numbers num-bers and a delightful pantomime pan-tomime sequence at the "old Soda Shoppe"; The fast pace set by the revue put the audience (old and young alike) in the mood for a highly entertaining evening. The intimacy of this particular par-ticular type of Theatre is something which everyone should experience at least once. The main feature, Mary and the Rangers was well-done well-done under Linda S. Nelson's direction. There were moments in the middle of it when it seemed to drag. Perhaps for something as straightforward as a Melodrama, it would have been well to leave out the sub plot involving Ernestine Von Liebedich and General Oscar Fairfax even though Karen D. Holcraft and Richard D. Cottino rendered very creditable performances per-formances in these roles. Little Mary played by Diann Christiansen was Sweet and every inch the stereotyped heroine of the Melodramas. Her bland facial expressions as well as her actions carried the I characterization. 1 Dave Howard came across well as Captain Big Jim Warington the typical handsome hero as did Mark B. Blakham's performance of Billy Jester (a hero by default). Local Theatre' audiences are well aware of the versatility ver-satility of Rick Dominquez as an actor. He did not disappoint them in his role of Fleet Foot the old Indian. His facial expression and movements were nothing short of delightful. Robin-Michelle Stepp as Nancy; David Maxwell as Chief Brown Bear; and Keith Price as Yellow Feather also performed well. And while the Forest Rangers and the Young Ladies from the Eastchester Finishing s'chool all did well; Patty Gordon's portrayal por-trayal of Millicent (who said nothing) stood out. General Fairfax's tribute ("a truly intelligent woman") to her will probably be quoted often by ; those of the male gender who attend the production. If you have not yet spent an evening at the Colorado Inn, . it will open tonight (Thursday) Friday and Saturday. Performances begin at 7:30 in the evening except for Saturday. On Saturday there will be a performance at 6:30 and again at 9:30. |
