Show Scouts earn Badges at Pow Wow Scouts from the Cedar Breaks District are earning merit badges in 22 subject areas-from geology to genealogy--during a scouting pow wow being held at Southern Utah State College. "Some 300 scouts are participating in the pow wow, including a troupe of Girl Scouts from Cedar City," said Kimball Weaver, district advancement chairman. "By the end of the three-week three-week period, most requirements for the badges can be completed," Weaver said. "During that time, the 11-year-olds can earn two badges while the older scouts can earn three of them." The final weekly meeting will be held January 22, from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m., in the SUSC Science Building. Each of the 22 different subject areas is directed by a couselor who explains what must be done to earn the particular merit badge, then adds his or her own expertise in the subject area when helping the scouts finish the requirements for the award, Weaver explained. ex-plained. "It is an excellent opportunity for scouts and their leaders to participate with other scouting groups as well as for the scouts to earn merit badges."
