Show Lady Reds Defeat Dixie Gals mm Wk ft ijy t.....- v, n 11 at - ' -''i i ni' OUT IN FRONT, Karen Ashdown is out in front on a,fast break and two easy points as the Lady Reds defeated the Dixie Flyers in action this past week. -Photo by Bruce Small Thursday, January 10, 1980, the Cedar High Lady Reds, on their home court, played Dixie. The JV team started at 5:30. Very early in the game Tori Brinkerhoff made quite a few points by receiving the pass and going for an easy lay-in right under the basket. This baffled the Dixie Flyers. With Kathijo Hansen and DeeAnn Smith's quickness, the Lady Reds got the fast break working to get some good lay-ins for more points. Laura Alderson was high scorer with 17 points. No one could hardly stop her 10-foot bank shot from the side. Trailing behind Laura was Tori Brinkerhoff with 15 points. With the outstanding work of the JV team, Cedar won the contest 50-31. The JVs victory psyched the varsity members up for a victory also. The Dixie Flyers were .ahead at the first of the game by 4 points, but Cedar pulled out ahead and stayed there for the rest of the game. There were quite a few fouls called, quite a few 3-seconds called, but turnover of the night for Cedar happened when the referee gave Avece Higbee the ball, and instead of passing the ball in, dribbled it in by herself. Avece was named playmaker for this game. Kellie Evans and Barbara Peterson took turns at Doxing Michelle Guyman of Dixie, out. Michelle made 25 points, but could have made more. Thanks to Kellie and Barbara she was held back very well. Kathy Nelson was under the baskets pulling down the rebounds for the Cedar girls. She was high rebounder with 15 rebounds and she also tied for high scorer with Karen Ashdown. Both girls made 15 points. Paula Burgoyne had an outstanding night making 11 points and rebounding 14. Cedar beat this contest 58-40. 58-40. The Lady Reds would like to thank parents and friends for coming out and supporting sup-porting their team efforts. They travel today (Jan. 17) to Carbon to take on the Dinosaurs. Good Luck! |
