Show Redmen shoot down Flyers 57-51 rWMU 7 otfe Ji it 1 Cedar City High School REdmen scored the first five points and the game and were never headed in their battle with the Flyers of St. George last week, winning 57-51. Kevin Webb put the Redmen on the boards with a bucket two and one-half minutes into the contest and Troy Lunt converted a three-point three-point play - a bucket and a foul - to put the Redmen in the lead. They moved to an 11-6 lead in the first quarter of play and dominated action for the remainder of the game. An aggressive defense and balanced scoring aided the Redmen in picking up their second victory in the ough Region Six action. Dixie hit four straight points to open the second quarter narrowing the margin to one at 11-10, but the Redmen answered with two buckets by David Corry and one by Lunt to stretch the lead to seven. At the intermission the Redmen were up by nine 29-20. Biggest lead in the game was . 12 at the end of the third period with the Red-men Red-men leading by 12 at 45-33. The Redmen were paced by Corry and David Carter each with 16 points and Lunt with 15. Kevin Webb and Scott Henderson each added five. . For the Flyers they wre led by a pair of juniors, Kelly Graves and Rob Gentry, each with 11. Kole Standi , , was also in double figures with 11. This week the Redmen will be on the road after drawing a bye in action Friday. Actuallythe game scheduled with American Fork was moved back to February in order that the Cavemen might make a single trip and tackle the Flyers and Redmen in subsequent nights. Friday night the Redmen will meet Spanish Fork in Spanish Fork. "We are in a position where we need to win some games on the road. Last week against, the Flyers the Redmen sophomore team defeated the Flyers with Kevin Hunter leading the scoring. But the Junior Varsity lost their battle. Each week that the Redmen lace Region Six opponents sophomore and junior varsity contest are held before the Varsity battles. This week the sophomores and JVs will be in action against Spanish Fork. Next home game for the Redmen will be Friday, Jan.. 25 against Pleasant Grove. |
