Show T-birdson New Mexico Road Trip Southern Utah State College's basketball team will embark on a perilous road trip this week when they travel to Las Vegas and Silver City, New Mexico. Saturday, the Tunderbirds will do battle with New Mexico Highlands, on the Cowboy's home floor. Highlands has had its share of problems this year, with its roster being cut to only seven players, and not one of them is over 6-4. 6-4. The Cowboys have had their spirits lifted by the performance of Mark Cassidy (6-3). Cassidy is third in NAIA scoring, dumping in 32.5 pergame (52 percent). The Cowboys will employ what they call their, "five guard offense". The" lack of height on the Highland team should open up the inside game for the 'Birds. The Thunderbirds should come away with their fifth league victory, but SUSC Coach Stan Jack is cautious saying, "That's a tough place for visitors to win." Monday, after the New 1 Mexico Highland affair the SUSC squad will travel to Silver City to meet defending defen-ding Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference champs, Western New Mexico. Western has a score to settle with the 'Birds from last year when SUSC took a six overtime win to knock the Mustangs out of district play. An all new Thun-derbird Thun-derbird team will have its hands full with a nine returning letterman Mustang Squad. However, if the 'Birds return home with two wins, they will be in a strong position for the league title. Last week the SUSC team played on its own hardwood, and took wins from Western State, and Southern Colorado. The wins brought SUSC's record to 4-1 in ; league play. |
