Show Money for Wildlife Program Congressional appropriations ap-propriations for federal wildlife programs have increased for 1980 despite heavy competition for taxpayer dollars. The U. S. Forest Service received an additional $9.9 million in 1980 for wildlife habitat management. Forest habitat research was reduced $0.4 million. A $3.8 million increase was received by the Bureau of Land Management for their wildlife program. In 1968, the Bureau did not have a wildlife budget to manage wildlife on their 400 million , acres of land. In 1980, $15.9 million will be spent on wildlife, but the amount is still inadaquate, a . spokesman of the Utah Division' of Wildlife Resources suggested. TheU. S. Fish and Wildlife Services's Resource management program was allocated $10.5 million more than last year, but funds for several of their programs were reduced. Congress realizes the increasing pressure on wildlife habitat and is providing federal wildlife agencies with additional funds despite the current tax revolution. Even though the additional funds are inadequate for the job that has to be done, it is a step in the right direction, Wildlife Resources personnel suggest. |
