The highly taunted and successful Eagles were able to outlast a hustling, but out-manned out-manned Southern Utah State College crew to capture the title by a 78-71 victory. California Baptist was able to hold on in the final minutes of play to defeat Rocky Mountain College for the Consolation title by a score 74-72. In opening round action Southern Utah State proved to have superior inside strength . to down Rocky Mnntain College by a score of 83-73. The game was not well played as both teams showed evidence of the holiday layoffs. For the Eagles of Oklahoma they dominated control of the boards and shot a blistering 54.2 percent from the field to take the measure of California Baptist 114 to 93 in the opening round action. Dwayne Williams, a 6-5 junior forward for Oklah oma Christian was voted the Most Valuable player of the two-day tournament. Williams accounted ac-counted for 26 points and seven rebounds in the victory vic-tory over Cal. Baptist and in the championship game added 24 points and four rebounds. He was the tournaments leading scorer. His ability to score and rebound at critical points were evident in both games. Joining Williams on the All-Tournament team were two members of the SUSC squad. They were juniors Russ Hafen, a 6-6 forward from Boulder City, Nev. and Dave Knudsen, a 6-8 forward center from LaHabre, Calif. Hafen was SUSC's leading scorer in the victory over Rocky Mountain with 20 points. He also had 13 rebounds and was credited with three assists. In the championship game Hafen picked up 12 points, had five rebounds and two assists. Knudsen picked up 19 points against Rorky Mountain, added six rebounds and one assist. Against the Eagles Knudsen had 12 points, two assists and four rebounds. Rounding out the All-Tournament All-Tournament team was Kelly Jobe, a freshman point guard for the Eagles; senior forward Ron Sanfilitto of California Baptist and Frank Irvine, a 6-0 senior point guard from Rocky Mountain. Jobe scored 20 points against Cal. Baptist and added 14 against the T-Birds. T-Birds. Sanfilitto of Cal. Baptist' had 12 points and 12 rebounds against Rocky Mountain and added 24 points and four boards in a losing effort against the Eagles. Irvine of Rocky Mountain had 25 points against SUSC ' in the opening round of play and added 20 against Cal. Baptist. SUSC wins opener The T-Birds had a real ; struggle in the opening game against the Bears of Rocky Mountain.
